Normah Medical Specialist Centre (NMSC) was officially opened in August 1988 and is owned by Sarawak Medical Centre Sdn Bhd which is a subsidiary of the Sarawak State Financial Secretary (SFS) Incorporation. It is currently a large purpose built private medical centre in the State of Sarawak and operates as a not for-profit organization. It is located around 16 kilometres from Kuching International Airport and 7 kilometres from Kuching City downtown. It has served the residents here in Kuching from having 130-bed medical and surgical non-profit centre to a world-class healthcare provider today. Besides, it has been given full certification in 2005 for Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) and NMSC was officially granted the prestigious JCI accreditation which makes this centre as the leading industry benchmark for measuring the delivery of quality healthcare. The mission and vision of this medical centre are Normah Medical Specialist Centre as the preferred healthcare provider in the region and as a united team, our Mission through an ethical holistic approach, is to prevent disease, detect disease early so as to prevent complications, manage patients well and compassionately and maintain their quality of life, all at a cost affordable to everyone who seeks us out. This medical specialist centre offers primary and family medicine and general specialties that include internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, and paediatrics, as well as secondary and tertiary services provided such as orthopaedics, ophthalmology, cardiology and cardiac surgery, endoscopic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, urology, nephrology and haematology. NMSC is also supported by the 24-hour accident and emergency support, inhouse pharmacy, blood bank, laboratory/pathology, and diagnostic imaging services, lithotripsy and renal dialysis program and rehabilitation care.
This garden is situated next to Astana which is the official Residence of the State Governor, across the Sarawak River and opposite of the Kuching Waterfront and about 7 minutes away using Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman. The 3.54 acres garden commenced in November 2007 and was completed in May 2009 has a collection of 75,000 orchids from 65 epiphytic and terrestrial species and hybrid growing in open and shaded areas resembling their natural habitats. The garden also features the world-renowned Borneo Orchids, known for its beauty and potentials as horticultural plants.
The World’s first Cat Museum is located at Petra Jaya in the Kuching City North City Hall and 4 minutes away from this medical centre. It has four galleries covering a total area of 1,035 square metres. Cat lovers will find a range of 2000 exhibits, photos, feline art and cat souvenirs, artifacts, statues about cats from all over the world. The responsibilities of the Cat Museum are to carry out research, collection, presentation, documentation, promotion, publication, education and awareness of historical heritage, cultures and the natural environment.
