Lundu is a district at the most Southwest of Sarawak, with a small, quiet town, located near the Batang Kayan River. It is about two hoursโ worth of driver from Sarawak's capital, Kuching. Based on the stories from the elders, the town Lundu got its name from a type of catfish that used to be abundant in the aforementioned river, called 'ikan lundu,' or scientifically known as Macrones guilo. Today, the fish is still easily caught at the river when there is a tide. The town is made up of several rows of shop houses, a market, some local government buildings, and of course the villages of the people of Lundu.
The town Lundu has come as another attraction tourist can, and should, explore beside the Gunung Gading National Park located near-by. It is the place where tourists usually go to look for an accommodation, especially budget hotels, whenever the park's full. Lundu hid some attractive sites and beaches that people should not be missing on. Their beaches are definitely surfersโ favourite.
Lundu is accessible from Kuching via public bus with four return trips a day; two in the morning and the other two in the afternoon. Also, if you prefer a little bit of comfort and slightly faster, an express bus service is also available. The trip will take you around 90 minutes. Do contact the local bus providers to get more details.

Being one of the three national parks in Lundu district, the Gunung Gading National Park has a star in its border, the rafflesia - the world's biggest flower.

It is opened to visitor daily and also has lodgings for those who hasn't gotten enough of the beautiful and picturesque views of the rainforest. It is not limited to only the Rafflesia, Gunung Gading National Park also has crystal clear streams and cooling waterfalls apart from jungle trails for visitors to enjoy.
Sarawak is best known with its dense jungles, extraordinary collections of florals and faunas, and this is a place where you can focus on the faunas. Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary - the oldest wildlife sanctuary in Sarawak, is only 20 minutesโ drive from the town of Lindu. It's opened back in the year 1979, and bordering itself with Kalimantan of Indonesia.
It is located within the Gunung Pueh Forest Reserve, covered by mangrove forest, and near a river. The sanctuary is also home to proboscis monkey apart from bird species and other animals. It is also said to be a great place for bird watching.
The beautiful 12 tiers of waterfall are about 20 minutes out of Lundu town in a village that goes by the same name, Kampung Sebako. The trail is still a bit challenging though. The view of the waterfall, surrounded by lush jungle will make the trip to Sebako Waterfall worthwhile despite a bit more adventurous trail to it.
