Legend has it that Santubong and Sejinjang were princesses from heaven. Santubong was known for her weaving skills, while Sejinjang was famous for her talent in pounding rice. They started fighting with each other to be the prince’s wife. The King was angry with the princesses for quarelling, thus he cursed them into Mount Santubong and Mount Sejinjang.

Offering a spectacular perspective on the coast of Borneo, Mount Santubong rises through irregular rainforest to 2,657 feet (810 m) above sea level. Today, Mount Santubong is one of the national parks in Sarawak, and one of the famous tourists’ attractions. At the foothill, there are Sarawak Cultural Village, Damai Beach Resort and Damai Central. The area is one of the best places in Sarawak to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphin.

A ride from your hotel brings you to the base of the mountain. Depending on your stamina, the climb up to the summit usually takes approximately 3 to 4 hours while descending takes about 3 hours.
