Opened to public in July 15, 1965, Sabah Museum was then located in the shop houses at Jalan Gaya, Kota Kinabalu. It was the State Government's commitment to the Sabah Museum that a much larger (43 acres), permanent and prestigious site for the purpose-built museum was chosen to relocate the museum to Jalan Muzium at the pulse of Kota Kinabalu city. On April 11, 1984, Sabah Museum, located at its present site was officiated by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. Aims to promote a broad interpretation of our unique heritage, this museum is available to be visited daily from 9am to 5pm with the admission fee of RM2 for Malaysian ahd RM15 for non-Malaysian visitor. Some of the main attractions there are the ethnographic collection in the main building, includes human skulls dating from Sabah’s head-hunting days, and a sininggazanak, a totemic wooden figurine placed in the field of a Kadazan man who died without heirs. Also, there are exhibition on oil drilling in the Science and Technology Centre and many historical photographs in the history gallery that depict the city when Jalan Gaya still constituted the waterfront, lined with lean-tos thatched with nipah-palm leaves.
Sabah Tea Garden invites you to immerse in its breathtaking ambient, surrounded by pristine dense rainforests in the cool mountain air and away from the the crowd of the city. Open daily from 8am to 4.30pm, the admission fee to the tea factory is RM14. Apart from enjoying various flavors of tea, some of the activities that can be carried out here are obstacle-crossing in the Sapaon Recreational Area, trekking along the trails to the peak of Kamunsu Hill or embarking on a night walk to check out the unique insect life.
