Atkinson Clock Tower

Stands glaringly on a cliff along Signal Hill Road near to the old Police Station, Atkinson Clock Tower is one of the most persistent landmarks in Kota Kinabalu. This all-wood, no-nails structure was built in remembrance of Francis George Atkinson, the first District Officer of Jesselton during the British North Borneo Chartered Company Administration in 1905. As the oldest standing structure in Kota Kinabalu, the clock tower is lighted up during the night and was used as a landmark for sailors until 1950.
