Hotels near National Zoo of Malaysia

Zoo Negara officially opened on 14 November 1963 by the country's first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman on 110 acres (45 ha) of land in Ulu Klang, 5km from the city of Kuala Lumpur. The zoo houses 5137 animals from 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. The zoo is divided into 16 exhibits on such vast grounds that visitors will need at least three hours to explore the entire area. Some of them area Reptile Park, Malaysian Elephants, Birds Aviary, Bear Complex, Mammal Kingdom, Savannah Walk, Ape Centre and many more.

The zoo aims to be one of the world’s premier zoological park and aquaria dedicated to conservation, recreation, education, training and research of various animal and plant species. Currently working with the local Wildlife Department on a release program for endangered bird species, Zoo Negara has bred over 200 highly endangered birds including hornbills.

The zoo is opened daily from 9 am to 5 pm. The multi animal shows are held daily at 11 am and 3 pm. Local adult is being charged with a fee of RM44 and kid is RM16 while the fee is a little higher for foreign visitors. For those who would like to get around the zoo in a tram, you need to pay for an extra charge. To get here, you can take the LRT (Kelana Jaya Line) that stops at Wangsa Maju station. Then, board a taxi to Zoo Negara. Alternatively, you can take Rapid KL bus number 220 from Lebuh Ampang or hop on the Metrobus bus 16 from Central Market. These buses will bring you to the zoo entrance.

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)

Promotinh sustainable management and optimal use of forest resources in Malaysia by generating knowledge and technology through research, FRIM is located in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. This place covers a total area of 600 acres land. Some of the attractions here are the canopy walkway, waterfall and nature trail. The easiest wat to get there is by the KTM Komuter and alight at the Kepong station. Then, take a taxi to get straight to FRIM. It is opened daily from morning till late evening.

Aquaria KLCC

Aquaria KLCC features 60,000 square feet underwater tunnel that houses over 250 different species and over 5,000 land and aquatic lives from all over the world. Located on the Concourse level of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Aquaria is open for visitors daily, including weekends and public holidays, from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm. Here, visitors will get to see many exceptional aquatic species including many types of sharks, sea turtles, bright coral fish, jelly fishes, seahorses and many more. The admission fee is RM49 and RM39 for local adult and child respectively.
