Hotels near Merdeka Beach

Merdeka Beach is a very well-known recreation spot among the locals of Kuala Muda town to have a picnic with the family or trying the available watersports activities around such as kayaking, boating and fishing. It is accessible from the town of Kuala Muda as well as Sungai Petani via Route 1 and K14 with a driving time of 40 minutes. How to Get There

By Car

People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive via North-South Highway/E1 for immediate access to the Merdeka Beach. The journey could take up to four hours depending on the current traffic situation.

By Train

The nearest train station is the Sungai Petani train station. From Kuala Lumpur International Airport, visitors can catch the Express Rail Link (ERL) train which goes to KL Sentral/Bandar Tasik Putrajaya/Cyberjaya/Salak Tinggi/KLIA route. There, one can board the Electric Train Services (ETS) northbound coach and stop by the mentioned station before opting for taxi or bus to go around to reach Merdeka Beach.

By Bus

The nearest express bus terminal is the Ukir Square terminal which is located in Jalan Kuala Ketil. Take the trip directly to Ukir Square terminal from the integrated Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) terminal using express bus services such as Sri Maju Express or Transnasional Express before opting for local buses to go to the beach.

Sampan Tsunami Kuala Muda

Built to remember the tragedy of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, the gallery serves to remind the lives sacrificed and destruction occurred during the incident. Upon arriving, one may notice the sampans or boats being stacked onto each other which is already becoming a trademark of this place. There is an exhibit of photos, art drawings from local artists and video montages that is played to the visitors for educational purposes in order for the new generation to not forget the history. In addition to that, there are also the ruins of the houses that have been destroyed when the tsunami waves fell upon the area.
