Ho Yan Hor Museum is a museum dedicated to everything related to Ho Yan Hor tea, including the herbs used in making it, its early history and how it expanded into the huge pharmaceutical company known as Hovid Berhad in present. It has been a staple that represents the history of Ipoh during the 1940s with the pre-war architecture still being preserved and maintained from time to time. In addition to that, the museum is located at Jalan Bijeh Timah in which its building was once used as the shop house where the tea creator, late Dr Ho Kai Cheong and his family resided. It is also the place where he worked hard in his study to bring the tea to the masses. Hence it is more than fitting that a museum dedicated to Ho Yan Hor tea is inside a building where it was first created, making this among the must-visit place when in town.
As the building has been around since the pre-independence period, there is such a rich history and value, which makes sense as to why it has been planned for the area to be included into Ipohโs Heritage Walk. Hence prior to being repurposed as a museum, some restoration and decoration works have been done and finished in 2016 in order to retain its glory while breathing a new life into the building. In a whole, the museum has two floors, where the ground floor would be a modern tea bar where Ho Yan Hor tea will be sold while the first floor would highlight more about the creator, Dr Ho Kai Cheong and the inception of a newer tea factory along Kuala Kangsar Road.
Waking through the museum, visitors will notice that many items within the building have been reconstructed or replaced entirely, nonetheless some of the artefacts here are of Dr Hoโs familyโs personal collection. The museum opens daily from 10 am to 4 pm and entrance is free for the masses.
