Sungai Petani is Kedah's second largest town and is located about 55 kilometres south of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah, and 33 kilometres northeast of George Town which is the capital city of the neighbouring state of Penang. Historically, Sungai Petani has experienced heavy industrialisation since the 1990s when Japanese and other international firms began to set up manufacturing plants around the town. There are small and medium industries which play a part in the local economy, producing many products from semiconductors to television tubes and from textile to wood products.

How to Get There

By Car

Sungai Petani is easily accessible using the North-South Expressway (E1). From Kuala Lumpur heading north, it is about 400 kilometres. It only takes about 20-30 minute drive from Sungai Dua PLUS toll booth.

By Bus

A bus trip from Terminal Bas Bersepadu (TBS) Kuala Lumpur costs around RM40 and takes about 5 to 6 hours of travelling time.

The Carnivall Waterpark

The Carnivall is a newly opened water park in Sungai Petani within the grounds of Cinta Sayang Golf and Country Resort. This is the first water park in Kedah and it was opened on 25 December 2006. The Carnivall is about 15 minutes from the Sungai Petani City and it is a water theme park in Sungai Petani. There are many pleasures and guests can enjoy a variety of games that available here. The price on weekdays is RM 25 (adult) and RM 22 (kid) whereas on weekends and public holidays, is RM 36 (adult) and RM 33 (kid).

The Tree Top Sungai Sedim

Tree Top Walk Sungai Sedim is about 30- minute drive from the town and is the world’s longest rainforest canopy walk with a length of 925 metres and a height of 26 metres up above the forest floor at its highest point. It was built within the low land of dipterocarp of Gunung Inas Forest Reserve. Visitors can enjoy the fabulous sight of rushing streams and truly fascinating flora and fauna in Kedah. It took 14 months to build and was completed in March 2005. This attraction is open every day from 9am to 5pm except during extreme weather condition like raining, lightning or very windy conditions. Visitors are advised to please wear proper shoes or sandals and please call or e-mail the person in charge in advance if you are bringing tour groups and inform the arrival time and approximate number of person.
