University of Sains Islam Malaysia or officially known as the Islamic Science University of Malaysia is a university located at Bandar Baru Nilai which is about thirty-five minutes away from the town and state capital of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. It is placed nearby the main road alongside Persiaran Perbandaran and is easily spotted when driving through the North-South Expressway.

The institution is the brainchild of several initiatives trying to push for a higher education institute that focuses on a tighter integration of Islamic values that have started as early as pre-independence days in 1956. Albeit a slow progress, the institution finally gets established in 1998 and begin opening doors and accepting students in 2000 as the University College of Islam in Malaysia. In its early days, it started off as a sister institute of the National University of Malaysia and operating temporarily at Baitulmal Professional Institute of Kuala Lumpur.

Due to its expansion, the institute later moved a couple more times before getting its own campus in Nilai, however only the medical faculty remained in Kuala Lumpur. As of 2007, the institute gets a full university status and renamed as it is until this day. While striving to uphold Islamic studies and bringing them to the mainstream education remains a priority, the university in present encompasses nine faculties with thirty-two undergraduate programs in various domains such as economy, law, Syariah, language, dakwah, management, Quran and Sunnah, Fiqh, counselling, communication, medicine, science and information technology, dentistry as well as accounting.

How to Get There

By Car

People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive through the North-South Expressway (PLUS)/E2 exiting at Nilai heading to Nilai/Pajam/Sepang before continuing the journey towards University of Sains Islam Malaysia. The journey could take up around forty five minutes or less depending on the current traffic situation.

By Train

From Kuala Lumpur International Airport, visitors can catch the Express Rail Link (ERL) train which goes to KL Sentral/Bandar Tasik Putrajaya/Cyberjaya/Salak Tinggi/KLIA route. There, one can board the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) southbound coach and stop by the Nilai station before opting for public transportation to go to the campus.

By Bus

The nearest express bus terminal is Terminal One which is in Seremban. Take the trip directly to Seremban from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) terminal using express bus services such as Sanwa Tours, KPB Express and Kesatuan Express. From here, hop on a local route bus to Nilai bus station located at Jalan Terminal Nilai 1, Bandar Baru Nilai.

Sepang International Circuit

Though located in Sepang which is within the Selangor state’s jurisdiction, this attraction is pretty close to the varsity, which is just about twenty minutes away by driving. A top tier motorsport race track, it has been a major venue and host of several important motorsport events such as the Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix between 1999 and 2017, as well as the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race and many more. Officially opened on March 9, 1999, by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, it is designed by German designer Hermann Tilke, who would subsequently design other F1 venues in Shanghai, Sakhir, Istanbul, Valencia, Marina Bay, Yas Marina, Yeongnam, Greater Noida and Austin.
