The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a typical home of a rich Baba, that was refurbished to reflect their customs, traditions and opulent lifestyle in Penang. This mansion was built at the end of 19th century by Hakka tin-miner and secret society leader of Hai San. This magnificent townhouse is the former residence and office of Chinese Kapitan Chung Keng Kwee. This Baba-Nonya museum is filled with 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles. The most interesting about this mansion is their unique and incorporates various Chinese architecture. The mansion was built with Chinese carved-wood panels, Scottish ironwork and English floor tiles. Besides, the mansion has now been restored to its former glory of a stately home so that it could survived the many decades of neglect and decay.
Take note that photography is not allowed within the mansion. Special permission has to be requested beforehand.
The Peranakans, also known as the Babas and Nyonyas, was a prominent community of acculturated Chinese unique to this part of the world, especially in the Straits Settlements (Penang, Malacca and Singapore) hence its other name, the Straits Chinese. Adopting selected ways of the local Malays and later, the colonial British, the Peranakans had created a unique lifestyle and customs which had not only left behind a rich legacy of antiques but its cultural influences like cuisine and language are still evident in Penang today.

One must reach KLIA first and then to Penang state, located at the northern part on Malaysia in order to visit Pinang Peranakan Mansion.
The journey from KLIA usually takes about 45 minute. From Penang Airport, take a taxi that will go straight to Pinang Peranakan Mansion. The journey is estimated to be 36 minutes with the 18.3km from Bayan Lepas, Penang International Airport.
The faster route is by taking the Utara-Selatan Highway. There are exit to Penang namely Juru toll, Penang. It takes around 4 hour and 28 minutes driving from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, KLIA. Drive from Penang to the mansion takes around 8 minutes, it is situated on a busy section at Church Street.
