Cherok Tokun Nature Park is named after a Siamese man who lived in Bukit Mertajam cherok feet. It is a small village and Tok Kunis usually referred to Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest. Cherok Tokun village consists of three villages namely Tokun Down, Up and Bay Hill Tokun. It is a popular park among the locals in Seberang Perai (mainland Penang) and neighboring residents from Kulim, Kedah.

This park is suitable for camping and other recreational activities like jungle trekking and picnicking. It consists of valuable timber trees of dipterocarp and palm forests. Besides that, visitors also can hike up Bukit Tokun either through a tarred road, or a jungle track. Along the way, you will be surrounded by trees, and have the chance to see monkeys, big ants, and millipedes. There are also many rest areas along the way to take a breather or refreshments.

How to Get There

By Car

From Kuala Lumpur city centre, it takes around 3 hours and 50 minutes to reach Cherok Tokun Nature Park by using North-South highway.

By Plane

There are flights to Penang International Airport such as Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air. Once you reach at the airport, you can take taxi or rent a car to Cherok Tokun Nature Park via Penang bridge for another 50 minutes.

Penang Bird Park

Situated near Sunway Hotel Seberang Perai, Penang Bird Park was established in 1988 and become the first and largest bird park in Malaysia. It covers 5-acre land and has a collection of more than 300 species of birds from all over the world, of which more than 150 species are of Malaysian Species. The RM1.2 million complex resembles as a habitat for free roaming pelicans, flamingos, swans, storks mandarin ducks and other kinds of birds. More than 3,000 birds in this park are carefully and scientifically housed in more than 150 cages for the breeding and conservation purpose. Besides birds, this park also boasts great collections of hibiscus, orchids, bamboo, ornamental plant and palm trees. Penang Bird Park is also a home to several species of deers including the smallest deer in the world and wildlife such as Giant Arapaima fish, pythons, giant estuarine crocodile and tortoises. Visitors also can dine at restaurant on site which offers delicious local and western food. This park open from 9am to 7pm.

Penang Spice Garden

Covers over 8 acre of land in jungle, Penang Spice Garden is an award winning garden consists of 500 species of flora and fauna. The tour provided will take you on 20-45 minute journeys past stream crossings, waterfalls and structures made of recycled organic materials. There are various kind of spices and some of them are sold at local store here. Apart from spices, there are also tropical vegetation and medicinal plants. The garden requires for visitors to climb and walk a lot. However, it is inconvenient in mobility for elderly and babies. The opening hours for this park is from 9am to 6pm daily and last admission is at 5.15pm.
