The Chimney

Located at Tanjung Krubong, the Chimney is a a square-shaped brick tower with two arches at the base, and a decorative frieze at the top. Also known as ‘punil’ by the locals and is an important landmark for Labuan, this stucture was built in the early 1900s when Labuan was still under the administration of the British North Borneo Chartered Company. This tower is over a century old and is one of the leftovers of mining coal mining activities at this place. Chimney Information Center’s building is located on the historical site of the Chimney Historical Museum displays the information of the history of Tanjung Kubong, especially the history of coal mining which began in 1847 through 1911. Open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, the admission fee is totally free.

Labuan Bird Park

A home to all kinds of Borneo birds, Labuan Bird Park is situated at the northernmost tip of Labuan Island and is around 16km away from the city centre. There are up to 580 of birds available in the bird park, some of them include the famous Cockatoo, kingfishers, peacocks, hornbills and sharmas. Besides sightseeing, visitors can enjoy the daily performances featuring live bird shows, taking pictures and gaining knowledge about the exotic bird species. The entrance fee is only RM3 for adults, RM1 for children age from 5 to 12 and for those under 5, the entrance is free. This park is open daily including public holidays from 10 am to 5 pm.
