About

Al Ghaffar Mosque is a praying place for the Muslims of the area. The Al Ghaffar Mosque is a single storey building with an open-air concept. It is located just by the road, making it an easy access for people. The Al Ghaffar Mosque is in the little town of Kinabatangan, just three kilometres away. It is also in the district of Sandakan, just an hour away. The Al Ghaffar Mosque is located along the way from Kinabatangan to Sandakan route.

How to Get There

By Car

It is easy to drive up to the A Ghaffar Mosque from Kinabatangan town or even from Sandakan town. The drive to the mosque is smooth as the roads are paved.

By Bus

There are minibuses going through town around Kinabatangan to Lahad Datu. These minibuses do not have any fixed timetables of when will they get around town. Do ask the locals as they usually know the time even if they are not specific.

By Plane

The town near Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, has a small airport that has flights coming in and out from Kota Kinabalu. The flights are three times a day. It will take an hour ten minutes to reach the Al Ghaffar Mosque from the airport. This will be the easiest and fastest way to reach Kinabatangan from Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah.

Tourist Attractions

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is one of the major attractions in Sandakan. The centre attracts both tourists and researchers especially when the visitors can watch the orangutan close up in their natural habitat. The rehabilitation centre has a boardwalk the leads to the viewing gallery and feeding platform. At the feeding platform, the visitors may see the feeding of the apes with milk and bananas, twice a day. The feeding times are at 10 am and 3 pm by the rangers. The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is only fifty minutes away from the Al Ghaffar Mosque. The entrance fees are RM 5 for a Malaysian above 17 years old, and for non-Malaysian, it is RM 30. For visitors under the age of 17 years old, the fee is RM 2 for a Malaysian and RM 15 for a non-Malaysian. Also, there will be an extra charge of RM 10 for the usage of cameras and such.

Gomantong Caves

The Gomantong Caves are made up of two cave complexes, the Simud Hitam cave that is 90 meters high and also the Simud Putih, the more accessible cave. The Simud Hitam cave is just five-minute walk from the registration centre. Through the caves, there are boardwalks that give the visitors an easy access into the caves especially for those who want to do exploring or simply just to watch skilled harvesters at work, obtaining the wonderful bird nests. This birds’ nests collection is usually done between February into August. The admission fee into the Gomantong Caves is only RM 5 for an adult with MyKad holder, and just RM 2 for those under 18 years old. For non-MyKad holder, the fees are RM 30 for an adult and half the price for those below 18 years old.

Nature Lodge Kinabatangan

This is the only one accommodation available in the surrounding area of the Al Ghaffar Mosque. It is just under four kilometres from the mosque. It is the best place to stay especially for those who want to enjoy the nature while still staying at the best and most comfortable place. The rooms at the Nature Lodge are only available for at least two days and one night at the price of RM 960. the rooms come with free breakfasts that are said to be scrumptious.
