Hotels near A Famosa

Known as one of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in this country, A Famosa was a Portuguese fortress in Bandar Hilir Melaka. This historical site was built in 1511 by the Portugese. At this time, the Portuguese were establishing an important port linking Portugal to the Spice Route in China. The fortress was built around a natural hill near the sea. When the Dutch defeated the Portuguese in 1641, the fort changed hands. In 1670, The Dutch renewed the gate, which explains the logo "ANNO 1670" inscribed on the arch of the gate. There is a bas-relief logo of the Dutch East India Company above the arch.

In the late 18th century, the fortress changed hands again as the Dutch handed it over to the British. The English ordered its destruction in 1806. By the time Sir Stamford Raffles who was sent to Melaka in 1807, fort was almost totally demolished. Due to his passion for history, this small gate was saved from destruction and remain there until today. A Famosa is very easy to get to due to its central location in Melaka city. Visitors get to wander among the majestic trees and historical remnants while taking cool pictures.

Dutch Square

Built in 1904 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, Dutch Square is one of the most attractive place to visit in Melaka city. Dutch Square’s most prominent building is the Stadthuys, one of the oldest residual of the Dutch. There are beautiful white monumental staircases and high windows that looks like a typical 17th-century Dutch municipal building inside the building. Taming Sari Tower

Taming Sari Tower offers you a spectacular and panoramic view of Melaka city from its peak. This tower was first opened to public on 18 April 2008. The fee to get to the top of the tower is RM23 for adult and RM12 for kid below 12 years old. This tower is open for visitors daily 10 am to 11 pm.

Jonker Street

This place has a wide array of stalls selling various items and known as one of the best night market in the nation.
