Tampin is a unique city located in Tampin District, Negeri Sembilan, however a part of the town spreads over into the neighbouring state Melaka. The Negeri Sembilan side of the city is governed by Tampin District Council while the Melaka side which is known as Pulau Sebang is governed by Alor Gajah Municipal Council. The name ‘Tampin’ is originated from the container or pouch plaited from pandanus fronds. The containers were used to keep condiments like shrimp pastes and dodol. How to Get There

Gunung Datuk Recreation Forest

Located in Tampin Forest Reserve, Gunung Datuk Recreation Forest is a hill dipterocarp forest. It will take approximately 10 kilometres for you to reach here from Tampin town. This recreation forest is lush with flora and fauna which will definitely shake your stress away. Gunung Datuk got its name from Dato’ Pepatih Nan Sebatang, who organized a gathering of leaders here to elect the future clan chief back in 1372. This 880-metre high mountain offers climbers a breath-taking view once they are on top. Climbers will take about three hours to complete the climb and enjoy the magnificent 880-metre above sea level view. This recreation forest is also suitable for camping and picnic activities. The climbing fee is RM5 per person, camping fee RM3 per tent, tent hire (hold up to 4 people) RM5, climbing guide for RM60 (less than 20 people), RM120 (between 20 to 50 people) and RM180 for more than 50 people. The chalet rental is RM50 per night and RM30 for half day rental. Visitors can also do rubber tapping. Thus, this place is really a good deal for you!
