Kuantan is a municipality and the state capital of Pahang, Malaysia. It is located near the mouth of the Kuantan River and faces the South China Sea. Kuantan is the 17th largest city in Malaysia based on population and the largest city on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The administrative centre of the state of Pahang was officially relocated to Kuantan on 27 August 1955 from Kuala Lipis and was officiated by HRH Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al Muadzam Shah, the Sultan of Pahang. The National Physical Plan 2005 identified Kuantan as one of the future growth centres and a hub for trade, commerce, transportation and tourism. Kuantan is considered the social, economic and commercial hub for the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia due to its strategic location and rapid development has transformed and modernised Kuantan.
You can drive by car by using Lebuhraya Segamat-kuantan/lebuhraya Tun Razak/Route12 to Kuantan. The journey could take up to hour and 20 minute from Kuala Lumpur city centre.

Berkelah Falls is waterfalls located about 31 to 35 kilometres away from Kuantan City in the direction of Maran. The falls consist of seven tiers, according to official data from the Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia (Jabatan Perhutanan Semenanjung Malaysia), the seventh and highest fall reaches an estimated height of 50 metres. The river and falls were named "Berkelah" because once upon a time, there were ikan kelah or mahseer in the river. The species has suffered a severe population decline, and are now considered threatened, due to habitat loss. Currently, there are many visitors who come here with family to enjoy picnic and camping at this site as there are many facilities offered here.
