About

The Park is situated on the longest continuous range of limestone hills in the country called the Nakawan Range. The Nakawan Range has beautiful and heavily forested slopes. The Park consists of Mata Ayer Forest Reserve and Wang Mu Forest Reserve with a total area of about 5000 hectares. The rich and extensive flora and fauna is being protected and preserve for its biological diversity and it houses more than 600 species of flora, 70 species of mammals, 200 species of birds and 35 reptile species. The main objective of the park is to protect, conserve, research, educate and recreation. Some of the major attractions in Perlis State Park include the various caves such as Gua Kelam and Gua Wang Burma which is located within the 500 year-old Setul limestone formation. Those intending to visit are required to obtain permission from the Perlis State Park management and engage the services of qualified guide. There are also many bird lovers camp in the park for a couple of days dedicating their time for bird watching many species of birds.

How To Get There

By Car

Perlis State Park is located on the western border of Perlis, almost meeting the border of Thailand. It is sitting on the longest continuous limestone hills in Malaysia, 36 km long called the Nakawan Range. From the North-South (PLUS) Highway, take the exit via Changlun and take the Changlun-Kuala Perlis highway to Kangar. From Kangar, continue on route heading towards Padang Besar - Wang Kelian. Continue your journey heading to Kaki Bukit Town and you will see Visitor Park Centre. This journey will take around 6 hours from North- South (PLUS) Highway.

Kelam Cave

Kelam Cave is a limestone cave that is a unique treasure of Perlis and in Malaysia as it is a 370-metre long limestone cave where it is famous for its 'cave walk'. The hollow limestone path is believed to be the idea of an Englishman that converted this cave as a method of transporting tin from a mine near the stream entrance of Kaki Bukit. It is also has been a favourite cave for the adventure seekers. You will enter from one end of the cave and come out at a different location and the only path in is via a wooden suspension bridge measuring 8 feet wide walkway. Now, the walk path is brightly shined where you can still find remains of mine operation inside the cave and the sound of squeaking bats and dripping water from the stalactites.

Wang Burma Cave

Wang Burma Cave is also among the most explore cave in Perlis. The whole exploration of the Wang Burma Cave will take about 3 to 4 hours and visitors can experience touching and watching the stalactites, bat, centipedes and scorpions. You have to squeeze through the narrow muddy tunnels to exit the cave. It is a cave system that has become the main attraction of the Wang Kelian State Park within the Perlis State Park.
