Located at the roundabout intersection of Jalan Teh Peh Kong, Jalan Taiping and Jalan Dewan, the clock tower in Parit Buntar was completed in 1959 and opened by Father of Independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman on Aug 24, 1961. The clock was inaugurated by Tunku Abdul Rahman on August 24, 1961, to commemorate the progress and prosperity of all the people of Parit Buntar. This clock tower acts as one of the important symbols of our country’s independence. It also was erected to commemorate the birth of a nation known as Malaysia. It was infused with Moorish architecture and inscription of “Peringatan Kemerdekaan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu,” was officiated on Jan 20, 1963, by Tun Abdul Razak who was then deputy prime minister. It was built at a cost of 3,370 dollars, with the money collected from local residents. Recently, the clock tower underwent renovation when Kampar was declared a district two years ago.
