Mara University of Technology Kelantan is a university located at Machang which is about an hour away from the state capital of Kota Bharu. It is placed at Bukit Ilmu or literally translated as Knowledge Hill nearby the main road and is easily spotted when driving past East-West Highway. The institution is established back in 1985 as the ninth sister campus of Mara University of Technology which aims to further expand its higher education offerings to the people living in the East Coast region, especially to the ones from Kelantan.
Officiated by YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Mohammad bin Yaakob, it initially operated at a temporary campus in Kota Bharu before later securing its permanent location in Machang and relocated in January 1996. The state government helped in financing the renovation process of the permanent campus at 12-acres land of Kem Kijang that costs one and a half million ringgit. The campus kicked off with its first cohort of 185 students for the semester of July-December 1985 studying various courses such as accountancy, business administration, banking and secretarial science diplomas with an amount of 71 staffs. In present, the campus has expanded rapidly to become one of the premier higher education institute in the state of Kelantan, housing six faculties and four residential colleges accommodating almost twenty thousand students.
There are flights to Sultan Ismail Petra Airport of Kota Bharu from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) which are provided by both Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia. Upon touchdown from the airport, guests may hail up a taxi or other public transportation to go to Mara University of Technology Kelantan.
