Hotels near Johor Old Chinese Temple

Located in Johor Bahru along Jalan Trus, this old Chinese temple (also known as the Old Temple by locals) is the spiritual centre for most Chinese in Johor. The temple was built in 1890 and symbolizes harmony and unity among Chinese in Johor. In the 1800s, after decades of rivalry, the 5 Chinese dialect groups or clans in Johor Bahru (Cantonese, Teochew, Hokkien, Hainanese and Hakka) decided to make peace. As a symbol of unity, the 5 clans decided to build a shared temple and house their deities together in the Johor Old Temple. The temple hosts 5 deities which are Xuan Tian Shang Di (Teochew deity), Hong Xian Da Di (Hokkien deity), Gan Tian Da Di (Hakka deity), Hua Guang Da Di (Cantonese deity) and Zhao Da Yuan Shuai (Hainanese deity). Many relics were preserved such as the century-old bronze bell, joss stick pot and wooden tablet. In 1995 to 1996, the temple underwent a major renovation at a cost of approximately MYR 1.5million. Once a year in the first lunar month, there is an event called Chingay (known as the Parade of Deities) which involves statues of deities being taken out from the temple and parade around the town of Johor Bahru. The annual Chingay has attracted thousands of people to march around the major roads of Johor Bahru together with the 5 Deities being worshiped in the Old Temple. Although the temple is not very large, it is rich of historical values and is definitely worth a visit for those who wish to explore the history and culture of Johor Bahru. The temple opens daily from 7a.m. to 5p.m.

Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple

Located along Jalan Tebrau, the temple is situated next to the railway station tracks between Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and Jalan Mohd Taib. Wholly decorated with impressive glass artwork in both exterior and interior, the building looks extremely stunning especially when it shines under the sunlight. The temple also houses several gold statues of various Hindu Gods displayed side to side.

Jalan Wong Ah Fook
