About

A small town located along the way to Kinabalu National Park. Once, this quiet, little town was known as the ‘toilet stop’ for those visitors going towards the national park, nine kilometre’ away. Today, this town was no longer just a pit-stop for people as it has blossomed beautifully into a ‘must stop’ place for everyone that came across it. As the location of this town is between Kota Kinabalu and the Kinabalu National park, this town has been a favourite stop for people going towards the national park. Most of them stop for breakfast while catching the breath-taking sight of sunrise together with Mount Kinabalu.

How to Get There

By Car

Driving to the town of Nabalu is the easiest way to get there. The trip will take approximately two hours to get to from the Kota Kinabalu city via Jalan Ranau-Tamparuli.

By Bus

There are bus services that chartered people from Kota Kinabalu to the Kinabalu National Park. The busses will stop by at the Nabalu Park. The bus fare from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu National Park will cost somewhere between RM10 to RM15.

By Taxi

Flagging down a taxi from Kota Kinabalu to Nabalu Park and the trip will cost somewhere around RM100 per one-way trip.

Tourist Attractions

The View of Mount Kinabalu

Due to its location, the town of Nabalu is one of the best places that has a great view of the highest mountain in Malaysia and its beautiful landscape. There is a 15-meter watch tower in Nabalu that is visible to the motorist passing by. Here, from the tower, it is the best place view the Mount Kinabalu from a higher vantage point. Tourist guides also usually bring the future Mount Kinabalu climbers here to see the mountain and get a preview of what they will facing soon. Apart from the watch-tower, there is also a platform built at the edge of the town, also for tourists to view the magnificent Mount Kinabalu. It is the perfect photography place for Mount Kinabalu as there are no obstructions of the view from the platform. However, do keep in mind that the mountain is usually covered in mist most of the time and to get the clear view of it, try to get there before eight in the morning, and a good weather will tremendously help to get a beautiful photo or two of the mountain.

Local Handicraft and Food Market

Despite this town being a small town, this place is popular for its food markets among the people in the city of Kota Kinabalu and also the tourists. The reason behind this mainly because of they have much cheaper prices for their handicrafts and food. Bargaining is also acceptable despite their cheap prices. Test out yout bargaining skills and don’t be shy about it. Among the items sell at the food market are locally and organically grown produces including fresh fruits and greens. There are also local handicrafts, at a lot more bargained prices compared to those found in the big city. The place sell locally made handicrafts and souvenirs, all line up along the 50-meter long verandah. The colourful and beautiful items, one of them is bound to be yours as most of the tourists could never resist not to buy anything.

Poring Hot Spring

Located just thirty kilometres away from this small town of Nabalu, there are natural hot springs, which is also an equally popular tourist attraction spot in the vicinity of Nabalu. The springs are well known for their therapeutic properties as the waters contain sulphuric minerals. The minerals are said to be great for easing aching muscles thus making this place, a favourite and a must-go for returned climbers of Mount Kinabalu.
