Beaufort District is actually located around 90 kilometres away from Kota Kinabalu which is the state capital of Sabah, the land below the wind. It was explored in the year of 1898 and is subjected under the administration of the British Government of the North Borneo Company. This district was named after the name of one of the governor in the British Government of the North Borneo Company, L.P. Beaufort.
Beaufort District covers 1735 kilometre square miles including small district Membakut. The district is bordering with Sipitang district in the South, Kuala Penyu district in the west, Tenom district in the east and Papar district in the north. Majority of the citizens of Beaufort are from the ethnic of Bisaya, Kedayan and Brunei Malay. There are also Murut ethnicity, Chinese, Lun Bawang / Lun Dayeh and Kadazan – Dusun who permanently stay in this district.
Originally Beaufort the town and district was built to help improve the economy of the inlands of Northern Borneo. The economic activity was based on rubber however in World War II it became the site for battle between the Japanese and Australian.

The line is called the Sabah State Railway. It leaves Tanjung Aru town every morning at 7.45 am. The journey will take around 2 hours therefore it will reach Beaufort town at 9.45 am. The train stops here for mid destination before the rest of the passengers precede going to Tenom.
The Beaufort Bridge is a landmark bridge across Padas River in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. It is a bridge that has been there for some time and it has been maintained for the public use.
This place is around 25 kilometres away from Beaufort. It is located in the village of Garama. Here visitors will be able to take the river cruise. It is a leisurely river cruise where visitors will need to have a look out for the famous Proboscis Monkey. The monkey has a prominent feature which is their oversized nose and pot belly.
The mangrove also features palms, scrubs and few other trees that draw in wildlife such as Macaques which is a rare silver Leaf monkey, flying foxes, birds and also water buffalos. The cruise takes around 1 and a half hour. It usually ends around sunset. It is the perfect way to end the cruise as visitors will be able to gaze at the beautiful scenery.
