Overpriced. Basic hostel styled apartment. Limited services. For what you pay:
• No mineral water (they prefer to provide guests free drinking water by self dispenser machine on each floor but I saw one guest was coughing & sneezing while going at it, I quickly change my mind about using the water dispenser due to hygiene concerns)
• No free toiletries (toothbrushes, etc. are for purchase due to environmental sustainability, or to me, just another money making scheme using green activism as an excuse).
• No microwave, toasters. (unusual thing for a svc apartment). On their website, it says microwaves and toasters are upon availability. Upon check in the staff informed me they took away microwaves and toasters from studio rooms because previous irresponsible guests and long term tenants did a lot of damages to their microwaves and toasters and Komune Living management decided to take away those privileges from future guests. Then why aren't they charging security deposits to ensure guests are well behaved?
• Not soundproofed, thin walls. (Noises are heard)
• Smell of cigarette from previous disrespectful guests smoking inside the unit, cigar or vape scents absorbed by cushion and air conditioner filter, when we turned the air conditioner, the entire unit smells like cigarette smoke.
• Cleaning is poor, floor is oily and dirty with traces of hair from previous guests, bedsheets has old stains. I don't know what people are paying here for if the service fees are not put in use by management.
• Our Smart TV & WiFi stopped working after about an hour in Room 2412. TV screen was on and off, in defect but it was later fixed.
• Shortage of manpower, slow to no action from management, if you want it resolved, go directly to reception, as if no one is upkeeping the rooms.
• Unhappy residents. We bumped into one of their long term residents, male in his 30s, he told us "No one cares about this place, they just wish to collect rent, any complaints or maintenance issues, they won't rectify them, many tenants cancelled their lease, so guests like you are helping this place stay afloat". Thanks for the info.
• Hostel styled apartment, lower your expectations - While I understand Komune Living concept is private apartment not serviced suites but its not convenient for guests who value privacy & going to the kitchen on a different floor just for to get hot food. Its offers high class interior but communal sharing concept like most budget hostels in Europe. Maybe they're inspired by co-living hostels, but most Asians we prefer to cook and use kitchen appliances.
• Location - Confusing for taxi or grab drivers. There are two entrances, one is for their residents, one for hotel guests. Quite far from restaurants and eateries. 15 minutes walk to Kerinchi LRT station, not 10 mins as advertised. Surrounded by main Bangsar highway, quite noisy day and night. Grab food delivery riders often miss the turn or got lost in finding the hotel. I missed my food delivery the first night I was here. Hotel manager informed us its often a problem. Guests are advised to inform online food delivery to call the hotel number to get a direction otherwise riders will end up at residence lobby, not hotel lobby where grab pick up/drop off point is really at.
• Basic / Limited Service - Paid RM810 for 6 nights but turns out our money is not worth their hospitality. We paid cheaper than their long term guests so we get basic service. And worst, cheaper room rates under travel apps, will be assigned to nearby construction site or near elevators, you can hear people on their phones, gossiping, its annoying! Very noisy, their walls are thin, no soundproofing, so you can hear neighboring rooms especially kids & families or guests who are jumping and dancing in their rooms.
• Shortage of Housekeepers - Most rooms are full booked daily. So by the time we asked for a room change from 2412 and 2408, none new ones available, unfortunately they're all facing construction site behind the building. Their excuse was not enough housekeeping team to release clean rooms. The manager said we'd have to wait until late evening, its close to 7pm & housekeeping team are they sleeping? All the quiet rooms are not available, only the ones facing construction are available. Overall, unusually low standard for private apartment in Bangsar Kuala Lumpur. What a strange, inconvenient apartment hotel. I feel its truly unprofessional for a hospitality management to generalize all guests as bad (I don't believe all Malaysians are disrespectful towards property's belongings? To me its just another excuse by the hotel not to put microwaves and toasters for guests convenience). We had high expectations but after these discrepancies, we don't think we should expect too much. We were only expecting a quiet peaceful comfortable stay. To me, because we paid cheap through travel app, we get noisy rooms, as our quiet rooms are sold out to our guests and long term tenants which they give priority to. Double standard. Sad that our vacation had come to this. We feel Komune Living just wants to make money & profit and 3rd party guests' wellbeing and comfort are not their top priorities, unless you're their long term residents paying $ giving them profits. As for us, we're considered as their side income. Insanely, our new room is located beside the highway, noisy and disruptive to our sleep. Wanting to leave but too tired to move to another hotel! Wish we had booked elsewhere. Sadly no refunds, think twice before booking here!
