Bali is a beautiful travel destination with activities for everyone, from extreme sports to romantic honeymoon and shopping. If you bring children, consider taking them to Bali Zoo. Situated at Singapadu Road in Sukawati area, Gianyar Regency, Bali Zoo is just 55-minute drive away from Ngurah Rai International Airport. If you stay in Kuta or Seminyak, you can reach the zoo in 47 minutes. Bali Zoo offers more than animals. There are a lot of fun and thrilling activities you can do with your family. Here are some of the most recommended ones.
Fill your energy before exploring the zoo with great breakfast at WANA Restaurant, Lounge & Bar. The restaurant was built next to the lion enclosure, with large glass panel windows that give you full views toward the lions. Guests can enjoy their meals without worries, thanks to the safety measures. WANA Restaurant serves Indonesian and international cuisine. You can enjoy fried rice, noodles, pizzas, pasta, and various meat dishes. Desserts range from ice cream and indulgent cake to fresh fruits and Asian-style banana fritters. Children can enjoy kid’s menu such as chicken wings, sliders, and mini hotdogs.
Bali Zoo employs professional mahouts from elephant sanctuary area in Lampung Province, Sumatra. Mahouts have interacted and taken care of elephants their whole life, creating bonding experiences unlike no others. Watching them interacting with their elephants is a memorable experience. At Bali Zoo, you can take care of elephants alongside the mahouts. You can wash, brush, and train elephants with the mahouts. You can also try riding elephants in a gentle way, following the mahouts’ instructions. This is a rare activity you cannot get in many places in Indonesia. Mahouts will also teach you about the best behaviors when interacting with elephants. They include basic vocal instructions, controlling the elephants, and the best ways to mount and dismount safely. You must make a reservation at least 48 hours before your visit to join this activity.
The petting zoo is open for children and adults. You can interact with various animals, such as rabbits, deer, and horses. The petting zoo is open daily from 10.00 to 17.00 local time. You can enter the petting zoo for free because it is included in the entrance ticket.
Do you know that many wild animals are active at night? Bali Zoo gives you taste of being a wild man in the past, surrounded by nocturnal animals. Called “Night of the Zoo”, this activity consists of feeding elephants, taking pictures with binturong (a nocturnal species from Borneo), snakes, and baby crocodiles, and dinner under the stars while watching fire performances. This night activity is suitable for everyone. You can do it with family members, friends, or romantic partner. The night zoo activities start at 18.00 and finish at 21.30.
Children between 6 and 12 years can try being a zookeeper for the day (under supervision). They can learn to prepare foods, wash and clean animals, and take care of baby animals at Animal Clinic & Nursery. They end the activities by playing at Miniapolis Jungle Waterplay Waterpark. Parents or guardians must sign up their children 24 hours beforehand. Make sure to pack shorts, swimsuits, waterproof cameras, and standard medications.
Children can try riding ponies with supervision. They must have maximum 30kg of weight to ride one of these little horses. The staff will guide the ponies through the zoo area. Adults can try Elephant Expedition, which takes them to a special jungle track on elephants. The activity lasts for 20 minutes.
Miniapolis Jungle Waterplay may be small, but it still offers fun water play areas. It has a shallow pool, regular pool, slides, and water fountains.
