• Ninjadera (Ninja Temple) - Myoryuji Temple was built by the Maeda lords, rulers over the region during the Edo Period. Despite not having any association with ninjas, the temple is also commonly known as Ninjadera (Ninja Temple) due to its many deceptive defences. Myoryuji was originally designed to evade restrictions and was secretly used as a military outpost. It was built with considerable defences and escape routes so that in the event of an attack its defenders could quickly alert the castle. The temple's defences protected its dwellers against intruders or attack using a variety of techniques including hidden tunnels, secret rooms, traps, and a labyrinth of corridors and staircases.
• Higashi Chaya District – This district boasts of some of the best teahouses in Japan. A chaya, Japanese term for teahouse is an exclusive type of restaurant where guests will be serenaded with song and dance by a geisha. During the Edo Period, chaya was usually located in designated entertainment districts, just outside the city borders. There are three well-preserved chaya districts in Kanazawa: Higashi Chayagai (Eastern Chaya District), Nishi Chayagai (Western Chaya District) and Kazuemachi. The Higashi Chaya District is the largest and by far the most interesting out of the three districts in Kanazawa. Two chayas are open to the public: the Shima Teahouse and Kaikaro Teahouse.
