On 10 March 2004, the airport was retitled for the previous president Heydar Aliyev, the 3rd President of Azerbaijan. Heydar Aliyev International Airport is located 20.2 kilometres northeast of Baku, linked to the city by a modern highway, which was put into operation in mid-2008. The airport serves as the headquarters base for national carrier Buta Airways and Azerbaijan Airlines. There is no flight available from Mactan–Cebu International Airport to Heydar Aliyev International Airport until the present.
