I can assure you that if you're looking for a stay at a heritage hotel in Penang, this one will provide you the most heritage experience ever: peranakan classic interior, quiet surroundings, situated strategically near Chowrasta market, Nasi Kandar Hameediyah, Hutton Lane Roti Bakar, and a bus stop. Even you'll dream in heritage vibes. Aside from the beautiful interior in every corner of the building which you can't hold to take pictures of, the hotel staffs were superb. They were thoughtfully helpful whenever I went in-and-out for a smoke outside, for like. Every 30 minutes 😅. The lady at the reception office provided me an ashtray and a sturdy stool crafted from a big rock installed to a solid wooden wall under the shady ceilings which enabled me to smoke in a calming, 60s setting. A huge plus point that really matters for me. Another plus point: the bathroom! OK, not every room has a bathroom in it but I stayed at the Carnarvon room that has one. From my experience, to turn the jet shower in most of Malaysian toilets, you have to rotate the handle to adjust the water flow with one hand and hold the grip with another hand (my phone kept getting wet 😭). But, you don't have to do that at ke-lan-tan. The jet shower here is like Indonesian jet showers which you can just pull the trigger to release the water pump. The only bummer: it was fully booked for the next days so I couldn't extend my stay. Will definitely return.
