Tapah is located at the district of Batang Padang. It approximately 125 km away from Kuala Lumpur. The population consists of 40% Muslim Malays, 30% Chinese, 20% Indians and a few indigenous. Apart from being famous for the Tapah Road Railway Station, the town is relatively less important in terms of economic activities. However, town is now gaining significance since there was a large prison built. Major neighbouring towns in Tapah are Kampar and Bidor.

Tapah got its name from a fresh water fish, "Ikan Tapah". Scientifically, the fish is known as Wallago attu which means "no worry" among the locals.

With an area of 14,628 hectares, Tapah District Council (MDT) was constituted on 1st September 1979. The district council covers the left and right sides of the main route from the border of South Kinta District Council up to Trolak and 10 chains left and right from the routes of Sungkai/ Kampung Menderang, Bidor/ Teluk Intan, Tapah/ Cameron Highlands and Temoh/ Teluk Intan.

Bahasa Melayu is widely spoken in Tapah. However, the Indians usually speak Tamil and the Chinese usually speak Chinese with Cantonese dialect.

How to Get There

By Car/Bus/Train

Your travel time may vary due to your bus speed, train speed or depending upon the vehicle you use. If you are travelling by car from Kuala Lumpur, take the North South Expressway (PLUS) and exit at 132. The driving may take 1 hour and 50 minutes. If you plan to take a train ride, please note that all the older,slower Intercity Services have now been replaced by these newer, faster, high-speed Electric Train Services (ETS). Head to KL Sentral to board the ETS and stops at Tapah Road Railway Station. Alternatively, you may also take a bus ride from Terminal Bas Bersepadu (TBS) to reach Tapah. Usually, the fee for a standard coach will cost you RM17.

By Plane

In Perak, all planes land at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport which is located in Ipoh. From here, you may take a taxi to reach Tapah. The drive usually will take approximately an hour.

Lata Iskandar

A pristine waterfall located between Tapah and Cameron Highlands, Lata Iskandar is home to one of the largest variety of exotic insect and plant life in the world. This place is ideal either for picnic, camping or any recreational activities. This waterfalls is easily accessible to the public as it is located just by the side of the road.

Kuala Woh Jungle Park

This park is located on the way to Cameron Highlands and is also known as "Batu Tujuh" picnic site. It is a perfect place for those who likes to be surrounded by natural backdrop. Sungkai Deer Farm

Established in 1978, this deer farm is only one of its kind in the country. There are about 100 deer roaming freely on this 100-hectare breeding and conservation land. There is also an exotic bird sanctuary near the farm.
