According to historical records, Bagan Datoh first opened around 1880 by Tok Miller, while the town of Bagan Datoh was opened in 1896. At that time, it was known as Sungai Keling and some call it by the name of New Town. Bagan Datoh name drawn from a combination of location and structure of the original inhabitants of the house, the name of Tok Kelah itself and the mistakes of the English people speak Malay dialect.

Bagan Datoh is a town, a parliamentary constituency and a new administrative district in southwestern Perak, Malaysia. It is about 130 km (by car) from the state capital Ipoh and 46 km from Teluk Intan, across the Bernam River is Sabak Bernam, Selangor. Pekan Bagan Datoh practically deserted because it is located on the edge of the estuary of Sungai Perak wide and flowing directly into the Straits of Malacca. In the 60s and 70s there was a boat from Jetty to Pangkor and Bagan Datoh Sitiawan. However, since the roads were built to Sitiawan and highways north through the main road between Bagan Datoh, Hutan Melintang and Teluk Intan, people do not use boat as their transportation. Presently Jetty Bagan Datoh is famous with fishing activity by the village communities. If you are driving from Kuala Lumpur you can go via highway Guthrie straight to Kuala Selangor followed by tanjung Karang, Sabak Bernam, Hutan Melintang and you reach Bagan Datoh. The journey takes 2 hour and 45 minutes driving. You also can go via North-South Expressway where it takes 2 hour and 51 minutes driving.

By Bus

Besides that you can take bus from Kuala Lumpur Hentian Duta to Teluk Intan bus terminal. When arrived you may take taxi to Bagan Datoh where it takes 39 minutes from Teluk Intan.

By Train

You can take ETS train from Kl sentral to Tapah Road.From Tapah you can take taxi to reach Bagan Datoh where it takes approximately 1 hour and 12 minutes to reach Bagan Datoh.
