"A hidden gem"
We visited Warung May Day on at least six occasions in the first week of October. You could miss this small hidden gem of a Restaurant if you were just walking past so keep an eye out for it, it's on the corner of a small lane on the left side of Jl. Lebak Bene about 200 meters down when heading from Jl. Melasti. The young staff are friendly and attentive, the food is good and cheap, the service is on Bali Time so be patient it is worth the wait. They are open for Breakfast early morning there is a selection of food they will cook off their menu for breakfast but not everything so ask what is being cooked as they don't have an exclusive Breakfast menu. If you want say BBQ Beef Sausages or Spaghetti you have to wait until after noon then you can have anything you like. The food is fresh and tasty with quite large servings, we tried many things off the menu and found the quality the same throughout. I particularly liked their BBQ Beef Sausages with French Fries, I was hanging out for something that was not Indonesian or Thai, my other half is Thai so we ate Thai food most days around the corner at the Lemongrass Thai Restaurant. I got my fill of Indonesian early every morning from a small Warung a few blocks away, so it was time for lunch and BBQ Sausages sounded great. My other half ordered them as well as she said she wanted a Hot Dog for lunch this was the next best thing that we could find. There were four small Sausages on each of our plates with French Fries and some greens, the Sausages were great, a nice smokey flavour and with that BBQ Sauce taste, I think they glaze them with sauce while they are cooking, we both enjoyed them immensely. If you like Shakes this is the place to go they are super and topped with lashings of whipped cream, another favourite was the cold young Coconuts, make sure you eat the soft young flesh from inside the Coconut after you finish your drink. Cold beers, soft drink, mixers are all available but its not an large drink list. Overall I would have eaten there more often but I had to eat Thai with my wife, she enjoyed everything she tried at May Day and wanted to eat there. This place would be great for kids they have many things on the menu that would please them.
