Quality Meat, No Frills
As readers of my reviews know, I am a serious carnivore and I spend an inordinate amount of time seeking the ultimate steak. Jakarta is a distant rival to my native Texas, but occasionally I come across some credible cow. HolyRibs was a whim. It was there and so was I, so I gave it a shot. It's part of the HolyCow franchise run by Chef Afit, and it has a good rep for quality meats. The interior is no frills, but the service is quietly attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. I was there around 3p, so it was quiet - between lunch and dinner. I was one of a handful of folks catching a late meal. The menu was as sparse as the interior design. There was a wagyu selection of steaks, a slightly cheaper selection, the rib section, and the side dish section. The drinks were equally sparse - a couple of soda choices, tea and water. One might call the selection highly focused. I ordered the cheaper ribeye - medium rare - with black pepper sauce and mashed potatoes with coleslaw. The sides came in separate small dishes, as (thankfully) did the sauce. I say thankfully because Indonesians have a habit of dunking the meat in sauces to the point where one can't taste the meat. I appreciate being able to choose how much of the sauce I want. The steak was slightly overcooked, but considering Indonesians like their meats cooked to the consistency of shoe leather, this is a victory! The sauce was a bit on the sweet side for my taste, but nice flavor with pieces of coarse-ground black pepper in it. The meat was tender and juicy, cut easily, and was very tasty even without the sauce. Another victory! The portion was generous (200gr) and it tasted fresh, not like it was frozen-shipped from Australia or New Zealand. The mash potatoes were uninspired, but did the job of soaking up the remaining sauce. The coleslaw was equally uninspired, but it's novelty made it taste much better. I ordered a soda, which came in the can with a glass of ice. This was nice because I felt like I got all that I ordered and wasn't gypped by over-abundance of ice and precious little soda. The entire experience set me back IDR202,000, which is fair for the quality and content of the meal. The service was quick and courteous, which may have been because of the off hour I was there, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I thought the steak was quite credible, given the general competition. I would recommend HolyRib for folks who want good food without a lot of fuss, and the place is light and airy enough for casual gatherings, though the lack of alcoholic beverages kind of kills the after-office meet ups on Friday night.

As usual, every time Jakarta’s traffic getting crazy, I always went to the mall or find a place to kill the time. I found this place and i know its is part of The HolyCow group... and I was feeling to have a big bite of beef or ribs and so i went there and ordered the combo that consist of 900gr of ribs, beef sausage ( I think its 50cm) and big juicy chicken tight. Since There is two of us so it’s easy to finish em all... 🤣 The ribs meat is so juicy and tender... the sausage... ugh... to die for... chicken tight... i’ve mention big and juicy right... over all... it’s finger licking good 👍👍👍👍
