A Good Old fashioned Watering Hole
Although part owned by an American guy, hence very popular with the Kemang expat community, the Bar reminded me of those Bars that I frequented during my travels in the Australian Outback, no frills, no glamour just good pub grub washed down by cold beers swilled straight out of the bottle. A real spit and sawdust watering hole full of character were you can cut the atmosphere with a knife whilst chatting with a very friendly array of old time Characters at the Bar. I visited one Sunday afternoon when an Irish Band was in full blast to the rear of the Bar, actually it was St Patrick's Day weekend so the Bar was extremely lively with the Irish either still celebrating or downing the "Hair of The Dog" in recovery mode. I parked myself on a stool in one of the two adjacent Bars and was soon into conversation with hashers that I had met a few weeks earlier on a run with the Batavia Hash House Harriers who seem to adopted this place as their Hash Bar. Its that type of Bar, very friendly and pretty soon you get to know everyone in the place, including a delightful bevy of young ladies that add that little bit of extra to an already lively Sunday afternoon. Following the demise of Block M its good to know that there are still Bars like Star Deli were a thirsty Expat can grab a jar or two of brown nectar to quench his thirst on a hot Sunday afternoon. Certainly worth a visit to experience a typical expat bar and witness how we manage to survive in a strange country so far away from home. Its tough but someone has to do it. Will certainly return to Star Deli on my next trip to Jakarta/Kemang to continue chewing the cud with those real Characters propping up the Bar , not to mention the those very pleasant bar ladies. All in all a great day so big thanks to Star Dely and especially that very lively and enthusiastic Irish Band, I just don't know were they got the stamina from to play none stop for almost 4 hours whilst wetting the whistle with a non-stop flow of bintang. Thanks Star Deli... I will be back.

Quite a large place with a couple of pool tables & a dart board. Seemed to be favoured by ex-pats. It looks like it was probably popular back in the day, but it maybe needs updating.

Dive, but fun!!
The place is a dump and the service is lacking but live music where people can jump up and join the band so that's pretty entertaining.
