A culinary journey through tribal lands
Had a great dinner recently at Som Chai. Attending the dinner for "A culinary journey through tribal lands"; a dinner to support Ethnic communities, with a showing of photography by #DavidMetCalfe . Excellent service with an incredible set menu, the dishes were plentiful and perfectly cooked. An excellent beef in local spices, fish marinated with Durian was incredible (am not a fan of Durian at all), and their wonderful pork belly to nibble on as a canape. Overall an excellent night, thank you to the Som Chai team, #WillMeyrick and #DavidMetCalfe,

Trying to be too different maybe?
I thought it might have been just me on not such a great day though another friend who joined here wasn't too impressed either. I found the vibe to be rather dark a dreary, couldn't see the menu at all. The food was very mixed in flavours. A few really good dishes though a few that seemed to not really work that well at all for us, though one friend seemed to rave about it. The cocktails were somewhat limited to their own specials of the day, sole of which were really nice though bit quite with rushing back for. I'd pass on this and continue going back to Sarong, the original restaurant in this group that seems to nail it. My hint in Sarong is to forget the main courses and try as many of the starters and salads as you can as this is where the magic happens. Have the with a decent bottle of New Zealand, Marlborough white and you'll love it!
