Great atmosphere and delicious food (also gluten free)
Sambal Matah is absolutely worth a visit our two when visiting Ubud. The staff is friendly and attentive. The menu is extraordinary and the local dishes and ingredients are used with and delicious twist. The tuna tartar is a must try and so is the shrimp salad with mango. Make sure to have room for dessert. They are unlike anything you have tried before and very delicious. A lot of the food can be made gluten free.

Staff is kind, but I ate much better dishes on Bali for double less money. Definitely there is a room for improvement.

interesting fusion food
We went to Sambal following reco from our hotel and the food was for sure interesting, especially the mango and grilled prawn salad. Atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant for a dinner. Not all food was great though. Grilled octopus had some ingredients and spices obviously meant to make the food interesting yet didn't work so well together, while the basics were a bit passed over - octopus can be cooked better. The desert - fresh mango with lime ice cream and a spicy sauce. Very interesting, combination to try, not necessarily something I want to have again. If you are a fan of fusion food you may enjoy Sambal Matah even more then we did.
