great food

We had aged steaks which were delicious. Service was great and so was the wine we had. It was impressive! Being able to watch the chef cooking in the kitchen enhanced the experience.

All show. Not much substance. Underwhelming experience.

In Bali for 8 days. Dined out every night. This by far the most disappointing. Restaurant looks great but that’s it. Dining for 2 tables plonked in the middle - no intimate romantic options here. Clientele should dress for this standard of restaurant but many were wearing flip flops and T-shirts. Food presentation pedestrian. Pumpkin salad tasty but messy - they need to watch Masterchef for some tips. Big deal that they have a wood fire grill. Doesn’t compensate for overpriced food and basic cooking under the guise of ‘quality ingredients’. Couldn’t even get our main meals out at the same time and then we had to wait for a mushroom side dish. Keep up the strong marketing. You need it.

Looks can be deceiving..

Had dinner at Salazon last night. First impression was that the decor was stunning and the staff welcoming. The food was priced at the top end for restaurants in Bali, which I have no problem with. The wine list was possibly the most limited and expensive I have seen. To be asking $14 per glass for local wine to me is ridiculous. To buy a drinkable bottle of wine will set you back a minimum of $150. I ordered a sirloin steak and my wife ordered the lamb shank and we ordered a grilled broccoli as a side dish. My steak arrived and was presented well. Now call me old fashioned but I like to wait until my wife’s meal has been served until I start eating. After at least five minutes I glanced to the open kitchen where there were eight chefs with four people in the restaurant. The head chef was in discussion with another chef and said “just serve it”. The lamb shank arrived and we could finally eat. My wife’s lamb shank was chewy and she could not cut the meat from the bone which was very large for a “lamb” more akin to mutton. My steak was average at best and given its size was from anything but a young steer. The clincher was the broccoli which tasted ok but really $8.50 for one broccoli florette, I don’t think so. One of the two stars in my rating is for the decor. Not again for us.
