Amazing food and value!
I’ve wanted to dine at this place for a long time and finally did it. It was Friday night and a quiet night. We were greeted and seated promptly. The indoor (which was supposed to be non-smoking) smelled cigarette smoke. So we opted to sit outside, which was smoking area, overlooking the pool. Thankfully there was nobody outside. There were lots of big fans outside which made the area comfortable. Service was very attentive (albeit too eager sometimes), and very hospitable. It was legit fine dining. Though the prices were very reasonable. We had caesar salad, Trump burger and duck mangret. The waiter unfortunately forgot to ask how I want my meat (burger). Everything was very delicious. Salad was wonderful. The burger was juicy and seasoned perfectly. The fries was just okay. But the duck was just fabulous. 2 huge slices! And it was soft. We were given complimentary amuse bouche. We also had wine and beer. It was a very enjoyable night. We would definitely come back.

smokey smokey smokey and expensive. On behalf of your lungs, vote with your feet and your wallet and go elsewehere
It simply doesnt make sense to pay that much for food you cant taste becuase of the lingering smell of stale smoke and fresh smokers. The Park Lane getting rid of the seriously dodgey bar downstairs was a great move, but this does now mean, late night drinkers and accompanying bar flies linger in the restaurant till late at night, smoking their lungs away. This leaves the restaurant uninhabitable to anyone with a palette and the weird idea of going to a restaurant to eat... Don't bother, rather eat in your room, go downstairs to the buffet or head next door to the mall . On behalf of your lungs, vote with your feet and your wallet and go elsewehere

What goes up....
When I first visited Riva in 2014 -and reviewed it here- I was a pretty happy customer. Less so this time. Riva has lost its sense of direction: it used to be a good restaurant focusing on good meat and continental fare, with some good French classic dishes, however already in 2014 I did not appreciate the techno music blaring from the bar next door, it just didn’t suit the place. Now with the bar sharing the same floor as the restaurant, in a possible attempt to be trendier, or more appealing to a younger clientele, and loud music being played across the dining area, the focus is no longer on the quality of the food. We decided to sit outside, where it’s quieter and is admittedly a nice area to have dinner -especially on a slightly windy evening- and went on to order; a T Bone steak for my partner and baby pork ribs for me. Nothing too fancy, we just wanted to have a quality meal on the way home. Unfortunately my ribs were very dry, and looked like they had just been pulled out of a fridge where they sat for a long while, waiting for me. The bbq sauce helped somewhat, but that too was really nothing more than a commercial sauce mixed with some ketchup. It came with French fries and a piece of corn knob. I admit that the price tag of 110.000 IDR should have sent a warning, but I decided it was a good deal instead. My partner had a T-Bone with no bone, and so thin that for it to be rare it would have to be served raw. In this case too the initial offer of buy 1 get 2 steaks was a warning: yes Riva has lost its focus, and moved to a strange middle ground trying to please everybody and ending up disappointing most. Certainly those who remember Riva as an award winning restaurant, consistent, pricey maybe, but worth it. The service was the standout: the lady serving us was attentive, food came fast, so no complaints there. I look forward to see Riva find its direction again, focus on good food, and ditch what’s its not meant for, especially since other places in Jakarta are doing that already and doing it much better, then hopefully I can revise once again my review. Let’s wait and see.
