All the foods that I tried are really amazing. I don’t even know what to recommend because of the amazing tastes in every menu that I had. The garlic fried rice had a really nice taste and smell!

Rayjin is notorious for its big name in the Bali food scene, being one of the most famous high-end teppan houses on the island. Located in one of Seminyak’s busiest roads, it has naturally caught my eyes several times. Last Wednesday, I decided to really give it a try and indulge myself in the culinary experience.  The place boasted a sleek design, a simple exterior facade with a small flight of stairs hidden behind some foliage, which lead to god knows where but it was a cool addition anyway. The front door was simple, very minimalistically Japanese, composed of gorgeous wood. To the right on entrance, you’d see a gorgeous oasis within the confines of its sister restaurant, Dahana - an equally famed name in the industry. The interior had the air of elegance, yet keeping the ambience very friendly and inviting. The teppan bar stretched nearly the entire length of one side, lined by stools that surrounded the bar. I then noticed, hidden next to the entrance was a small bar and wine cellar. A window sat behind the bar, tinted behind the afternoon sun to provide a spectacular backlight effect on the bar. We were seated on a gorgeous set of wooden furniture and then approached by a well-dressed gentleman who catered to our orders.  Food: We ordered plenty. First on our table was the Chicken Nanban - sautéed sweet and sour marinated chicken and Japanese tar-tar sauce. Its tang was apparent, a well formulated dish that just tasted right in every way. Up next was a more typical dish, grilled Salmon Teriyaki - served with grilled mushrooms. It was cooked to medium wellness, keeping the outside crisp but the inside still moist and soft. Neat stuff. Third and fourth up were Beef and Pork Yakiniku respectively. They were very similar, sweet and salty in perfect synchrony, infused within the meat. The star of the show was however, without a doubt, the Mentaiko pizza - a crepe-based ‘pizza’ topped with plump shrimps, thinly sliced potatoes, and melted mozzarella. It was like none other I’ve ever tasted. Unique, creamy, umami-bomb of flavors, one slice after another. This I recommend greatly.  Rayjin is ultimately the perfect Japanese teppan diner, it takes its meat-game seriously, and is most of all, not afraid to innovate. It excels in the ever-innovating food scene of Bali, and keeps its notorious badge.
