Not worth the money
My husband and I wanted to enjoy a cultural show and we saw that Pasar Sengol offer one every night. We made reservations but also decided to show up early to make sure we get a good seat. We were excited when then placed us so close to the stage. $50 USD is pretty steep price for a buffet but I love the idea of being able to try a bunch of different Indonesian/Balinese food. The food though was not good. Everything was lukewarm and wasn’t very flavorful. The fried food was greasy and tasted like it has been left out for a while. They had a chip bar with a bunch of different chips such as shrimp and cassava. However, all the chips were stale. The meats were dry and not flavorful for Indonesian food. The chicken satay was the only thing that was warm and tasted good. The dessert bar had different fresh fruit, ice cream, and Indonesian desserts. Overall everything was okay. If you were starving this will fill you up but it would not be satisfying. The dinner included a show with Balinese dances. The show was about 40 minutes long with the performers doing 5 different dances. The show was interesting and nice but it did not make up for the bad food. Also everything is outside so there were bugs everywhere. Luckily I didn’t see any mosquitos but there were definitely a variety of other bugs that landed on me and the table. I would have just wrote off the whole experience as a bad expensive dinner if not for my experience at the end of the night. When we got the bill, I found out that they charged for the tea I ordered. At the beginning of the night, the server told me that the tea was included in the buffet so I ordered a jasmine tea. She asked me if I wanted it on ice. I asked if iced tea was also included and she said yes. I told her I wanted the lychee ice tea but she told me lychee ice tea wasn’t included. So I went with the iced jasmine tea and confirmed again that it was included in the buffet price. She confirmed that it was. Later in the night, I ordered another iced jasmine tea. But when the bill came we saw that we were charged for the teas. The server who told us it was included in the price was no where to be found. We spoke with the server who brought the bill about what the other server told us and he just kept telling us that there was a charge for iced tea and only hot tea was included. I have never done this but I asked to speak with the manager. The manager said again that there was a charge for the iced tea. I understand that a restaurant will charge for drinks but I was upset that I was told one thing and then the restaurant went and did something else. This was more frustrating because, knowing that there might be a language barrier, I confirmed my understanding multiple times with one of their employees. The manager did eventually take the iced teas off the bill but the experience just ruined the night for me. I would not recommend this place for dinner. There are restaurants that offer much better Indonesian/Balinese food. Also, the show was okay but not worth the $50 USD per person. I would have rather gone to Ubud and gotten dinner and seen a show there, it might have actually been less pricey and the food would have been better.

A fantastic place to eat typical indonesian food and enjoy a cultural display of dancing. Good for light entertainment.

Good buffet with Cultural Show
Located inside the Grand Hyatt Hotel and the ambiance was superb. The buffet setup was really good. Huge selection of authentic Asian and Balinese cuisine. The grilled selection is the star. All the staff here are really friendly. Loved the cultural show.
