Delicious food, lovely space over looking river and trees

The food is excellent. Balinese duck - I don't care for duck and I loved this. Beef Rendang. A fond and delicious memory. Added bonus: beautiful gift shop in lobby reflecting Murni's artistic sense and love of design.

Beautiful venue... Delicious food

We had heard many good things about Murni, the lovely Balinese lady who is behind this famous Ubud food institution. Of course, on our first day in Ubud, lunch at Murni's was a must! "Make sure you take a table at the river's level," our friend instructed us, and so we made our way down the stairs to the lowest level of the restaurant, and voila! We were standing right above the river. We picked a corner table, opposite from the the little shrine (see photo). There were not too many people in the restaurant when we arrived, so the staff was attentive from arrival. Our table was a bit sticky and moist perhaps from the high humidity, but we pointed it out to our server, and the table was quickly spruced up! The entire place is truly beautiful and peaceful, and the sound of the rushing river's waters below completed "that" Balinese feeling everyone is searching for We ordered two lemon crush, to get started and they were good! The menu is quite extensive, with many traditional Balinese dishes, and so, it was a tough decision. We ordered way too much food for two people, but so many items on the menu sounded great. For our starters we ordered the Lumpia, and for our mains we ordered the Tutu Ayam, Gado Gado and Soto Ayam. Of course, we had to try the Black Rice pudding, a very traditional Bali dessert. The food was beautifully presented, with generous portions. The delicate spices are readily apparent and distinct to the palate. Each dish was well prepared, and was a lovely experience. The food level of spiciness is very mild, and we always forget to ask for full blown Balinese spiciness, but a fresh batch of chopped chilies (cabe) took care of that. Perhaps it's a good idea to ask guests the level of spiciness they would like when ordering? Overall, the experience was very pleasant, and we happily rolled out of the restaurant, after eating so much! The prices are on par with the better restaurants in town. The boutique upstairs has a great collection of Balinese souvenirs at very competitive prices. A lovely lunch we had! Highly recommended by Jerry and Regina 😉
