I could say this is the best dimsum I've ever tasted. Sadly it had to close its store in Jakarta. See you in Singapore

Like the Lotte Shopping Avenue its not working
This was my first visit to the Lotte Shopping Avenue, being a fan of Lotte and having admiration for Ciputra's early bravado I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately MAD, like the Lotte Shopping Avenue, simply isn't working. Of course only a property developer would think that south central Jakarta really needs another shopping mall and I guess Ciputra has already made his money from the Korean investor. So Jakarta is left with less public space, more traffic congestion, more sinking land, a white elephant and yet another overseas investors that's burnt their fingers. Oh and of course one of Jakarta's superrich even richer. Summing up the lunacy of the development and MAD is the Lotte Duty Free Shop, prices are higher than on the high streets of Europe and the US, you have to show your passport and outbound flight ticket (only an Indonesian public servant would believe that shoppers carry plane tickets with them), then collect your goods from the Lotte Duty Free at the airport, where you could have bought the goods from there first place! MAD is about as crazy, it probably works in Singapore, where it started, as expensive gimmicks seem to work in that city, but not Jakarta. I notice from the website that its changing the concept, so I guess my comments are not that of a disgruntled loaner. The goods points, its huge and very trendily decorated, the staff are charming and attentive and the drinks were first rate. But the food and prices really let MAD down. We had french fries with truffle oil which you can't go wrong with, but charging Rp.65.000 ++ is stretching it for informal dining. We both loved the sound of lobster and crab tacos, which turned out the be mayonnaise bruschetta! My wife couldn't eat them, leaving me to force down nearly Rp.200.000 ++ of bread and mayonnaise! We debated ordering something else, but being from Java my wife need rice and chilli and we departed Rp.400.000 lighter and feeling slightly nauseous. Reading other reviews maybe ours was a bad experience and we should have ordered something else. Certainly, the decor should appeal to Jakarta's more affluent hipsters. But come on Rp.400.000 for two snacks and non-alcoholic drinks is completely over the top. I do hope that Lotte can sort out the problems with the mall and MAD come up with a concept more suited to Jakarta, as we really really don't need an average mall located on this prime location, nor a Kemang style diner charging 3 times the going rate.

Perfect for weekday lunch
My friend and I were pleasantly surprised when we tried this restaurant for the first time on a weekday lunch. The restaurant was so huge, with plenty of nice looking, comfortable seats with a great view through glass walls. It was an open-style kitchen, nice concept. They had their buy one take one promo for weekday lunch so we took advantage of it. We ordered the pan fried sea bream with risotto ( very tasty, the fish cooked perfectly) and the mantau with chicken ( good enough, 4 pcs each serving). Service was fast and efficient and the location of the restaurant is perfect for those people who want to watch a movie since it's right beside Cinema 21. The next time I go back to this mall, I would definitely consider choosing this resto again.
