Don't do this to yourself or your loved ones. Grimy and dirty.
I have come to Indonesia for 30 years, studied in Java, been to most of the islands around and have eaten at many, many warungs. I have met several people who had fond memories of Mama Putu from years ago. We gave it a try today and regretted it. The place is dusty and grimy and has not been cleaned in many years. Mama and Papa Putu are old and friendly, dressed in rags but all smiles. This warung reminded me of Indonesia in the 80s when you stopped in the middle of nowhere and were grateful for any food they gave you. The problem is that they don't have the turnover of a warung roadhouse or busy place. The food was basic served on grimy plates, with grimy cutlery and it was safer not to use the glasses but drink from bottles. The toilets were horrendous and reminded me of the ferry to Java - worst loos in the world. Honestly - if you want true Indo warung food, ask your taxi driver to direct you to a local place or have some bakso ayam from a kaki lima stret vendor. It's a much safer bet and more hygienic. We loved Mama Putu's. Good, cheap, large serves. Had 2 breakfasts there, a lunch and also 2 takeaway dinners (via a delivery app) Can not fault our experience. Lovely Nasi and Mee Goreng, amazing Gado Gado and more than happy to accomodate my annoying vegan self :) I was told the seafood was good also, but cant personally comment.

Something must have been wrong with the chef when we went for dinner as our food was terrible. Husband had Nasi goring which he thought was awful. Was cold, meat tough, rice crackers stale ( worst he ever had). I had imported beef!!?! With chips. All cooked in rancid oil or fat with black chips and an awful gravy on the beef? Kitchen left a lot to be desired. The whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. We should have known better. At the price ($5) it couldn’t have been beef!
