Picturesque view with amazing food
Approaching Labak Sari from the East, you can immediately pick out the restaurant sitting above a tiered rice patty. As we pulled in on our scooter, the owner of the restaurant greeted us at the bike and showed us to our table, perched on the edge of the field, overlooking the patties and scene below. The view was incredible, made even better by the weather deciding to clear up shortly into our stay. Having never had Indonesian food before, we ordered a few different dishes, including Be Siap Jejeruk (grilled shredded chicken with cucumber and rice), and Gado Gado (Tempeh and Tofu over stir fried veggies). The highlight for myself, however, was the Be Siap Gerangasem, or chicken curry with vegetables and rice. The chicken is cooked on the bone, retaining excellent flavor and texture. The curry itself, even better. They also serve a variety of beverages, and we tried the Hello Yellow, which includes banana, pineapple, honey, and milk. As with the rest of the meal, it exceeded our expectations, and is probably one of the best smoothies I've ever had. The fact that you can get this quality of a meal, combined with the scenic beauty of the location and very welcoming hosts, for a more-than-reasonable price makes it a must visit when looking for a spot to eat in Ubud.

Delicious local food
We went to Labak Sari following the recommendations on TripAdvisor and were not let down concerning the quality of the food. It‘s a lovely little place quite a bit on the northern outskirts of Ubud with just a handful of tables and a small lake nearby so you might want to arrange for a taxi to get you there and back if you‘re not staying nearby. Having said that, I also need to mention -and I am a bit surprised that this es not a subject in any recent posts- that you may have to be *very* Patient waiting for your food. We came in at 8 in the evening getting the last of the free tables (7? 8?) and had a taxi driver waiting for us telling him we would be back in 90 minutes since we only planned on a starter and main course each. It took 15-20 minutes for the staff to take our order and about 20-25‘ minutes more to return with 2/3 of our ordered drinks. About 1 hour after arriving we were served the first of our two starters (a delicious green mango salad) - how this could have taken 60 minutes is beyond me. The rest of our food was served much quicker after we informed the staff that we had a driver waiting but all in all it still took 2 hours -which we might not have minded if there was nobody waiting for us- for food that could without haste could certainly have been prepared in half the time. Conclusion: if you are in no hurry this is a beautiful little place to visit and enjoy your food in but be prepared that it might take longer than you expect. Since no one warned or informed us while we were sitting there I have to deduct 2 points from the maximum as this tool plainly much too long without at least someone coming up on their own telling us this would take longer for whatever reasons. To end on a positive note, the quality-price ratio is very fair indeed (portions are reasonably smaller as a result) so this certainly can be considered a bargain if you have the time and don‘t come hungry.

The staff were, as pretty much always in Bali, friendly & smiling and showed us to a large table so that we could all sit & look out at the amazing view. The menu is mainly Indonesian & there are so many delicious looking options. It was absolutely amazing & I enjoyed every mouthful.
