One of our Bali favourites
With its great range of outstanding authentic Balinese and Indonesian cuisine, we usually have our first or last meal of our Bali trip here as well as other meals too. This time we were only visiting Tuban for the afternoon/evening mid-trip to catch up with the in-laws. We shared lumpia, otak otak (fish cakes) and tahu isi (stuffed tofu) for starters. All of these small plates were delectable, but our favourite was the tahu isi. My husband and mother in-law had the Nasi Campur Special which they both enjoyed. The sambal, as usual, had quite a bit heat of heat to it, so if you have it, don’t do as my son did on a previous visit and mix it all through the rice without tasting the sambal first – it was so hot he had trouble eating the rice! I had the Bihun Goreng which was delicious with its smoky wok flavours. My father in-law had the Mie Goreng which he liked but wouldn’t rave about (he is really fussy though!). We enjoyed quite a few happy hour “buy one, get one free” mojitos (including watermelon and traditional) and my father in-law had a couple of small bintangs. I must thank our lovely waitress who let us have happy hour cocktails for the entirety of our meal - long after happy hour had finished. The dessert menu is fantastic, with a great range of International and Indonesian desserts, but we were too full to indulge (probably because of all the cocktails we drank!) I love the restaurant décor, the cool atmosphere and the range of comfortable seating options, whether seated outside or inside in air-conditioned comfort. After taxes were added, our bill for four people came to about Rp 977,000, which was quite reasonable given the amount of yummy cocktails we drank, the fantastic quality of the food and the beautiful restaurant setting. I would highly recommend a visit to Kafe Batan Waru for either lunch or dinner.

A Great Place for Indonesian dishes.
The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Lippo Mall. The restaurant is spacious, with outdoor seating as well as indoor air-conditioned seating area. During our stay in the Kuta beach area for five nights, we had dinner on three evenings at the Kafe Batan Waru. Over the different days, we had tried Lumpia, Martabak, Sate Ayam Madura (Chicken) with Lawar, Sate Babi Serapah (Pork) with Lawar, Mie Goreng (Chicken and Vegetables) and Tum Ayam Boneless chicken and young papaya with Balinese spices, steamed in banana leaf parcels. On each occasion the food was tasty and flavorful. The wait staff was both friendly and helpful. Service was swift and efficient. We had an enjoyable dinner every time.
