A good restaurant idea very poorly executed.
Interesting menu, poorly cooked. Generally tasteless food using frozen vegetables. "Macaroni" main course was served in a 15cm oval aluminium foil dish that had been microwaved, which the waiter admitted to. It was like rubber and was totally inedible. The other "Dutch" dishes tasted inauthentic and were a total disappointment. Don't be sucked in by the interesting menu items, since they have no idea how to cook them. Zero atmosphere and disinterested waiters complete a disappointing picture.

HEMA is a popular chain of squat-n-gobbles in the Netherlands, and I'm not sure this place is related to those, but they are obviously attempting to trade on the familiarity of the name. In any case, I was looking forward to eating here, since I like Dutch food and there are several very good Dutch restaurants in Jakarta. I was, unfortunately, disappointed by HEMA. The menu is impressive, with a dozen or so pages of items appropriate for a Dutch restaurant. The prices were reasonable, as well. However, the experience on the plate was less than I had hoped. The first problem was the waiter brought one menu for two people, prompting my dining partner to remark, "Pelit banget," or 'very stingy'. This was the beginning of an evening with very inattentive service. Waiters had to be hailed for drink refills, the table remained uncleared for quite a while, and it took several tries to get the bill. The staff seemed wholly unfamiliar with the menu and what was/wasn't available in the kitchen. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, while my dining partner had wanted the salmon steak, but was informed that the salmon had run out, and he settled for an alternative. We both ordered iced lemon tea. The tea was nothing more than Nestle mix, which I find cloyingly sweet, and of course, packaged. The meal was the same. The chicken and fries were obviously Sysco institutional mass produced items (or whatever the restaurant supply company is here), and little if anything was done to dress it up. The chicken was overdone and a bit dry, as well. The small side salad was wilted and seemed to have sat on a plate waiting for an order for some time. The location is nice, though I didn't go inside. The patio is large and comfortable. Not much of a view, but it is set back from the major roads, so it is relatively quiet and one can hold a conversation in a normal voice. The restaurant has a distinct cafe feel with a Dutch flair, showing some attention was given to the ambiance. To be clear, I did not have a BAD experience, but it was completely and painfully average. Our meals were nothing exceptional and I could have had the exact same food at any of a dozen other locations. The service was not BAD by Jakarta standards, but it did not stand out in any way. Overall, it was a bland and lifeless dining experience - not bad in any particular way, just not distinguished in any way, either. Alas, on this visit I didn't explore the beer selection, which being Dutch themed, should be exceptional if management is on the ball. If the selection is interesting, then this would make a good spot for after-work hangouts while waiting for the nightmare traffic to die down a bit, since I did like the spacious patio and relatively quiet surroundings.

This was one of my fav restaurant. After quite sometimes, i went back here and found the restaurant itself is 'losing grip' The interior needs some touch up, hygiene needs to be well looked after.. and the taste of the foods were not as good as before.. Just ok. But the staff is friendly, this the plus point.
