The food stall is very unique as the name implies. Paon means kitchen and it actually uses the kitchen as the show piece where the food is served. It opens at 22.00 p.m. but at 20.00 p.m. the queue already starts so do not come late because it runs out quickly.

Don't be late!
Came at 10:05 PM on weekend and spotted a long queue at around 10-20 people in front. Some ordered in bulk, some are Gojek/Grab drivers who ordered take away, most are local but I believe some are foreigners as well. This place is situated in a quiet neighbourhood and dark, there are locals who help the parking on the road side, there is an even smaller lane and that is where the lines are formed. The opening hour is stated 10:00 PM until sold out. The queue will end at the kitchen area of the small house, thus the name Pawon (kitchen). We could see and feel the burning firewood, steaming rice and huge boiling pan of ingredients. At the end of the line, there was 2 ladies working side by side with the order, payment and cooking. There were only 4 types of cooking there: gudeg, boiled marinated eggs, marinated chicken part (thigh, breast, wing and neck), and krecek (spicy soft cooked beef skins) with gravies of long beans, nuts and tempe. You order by simply telling the lady what you want to add on top of your rice. By the time I ordered, it ran out of chicken breast. Go out from the kitchen and eat your gudeg in a small carpeted area, you could grab some crackers as well there. After that, for payment, go in the kitchen again and told the lady you wanted to pay (bayar). Tell her what you ordered and she will calculate a lumpsum. By the time we finished, it was 11:00PM and it stated as sold out. Try the more common gudeg in Yogyakarta first, and if you like it, you have to try this. Skip if you don't.
