Authentic, classic western food that hits the mark
As a westerner visiting Bandung I'd intended to experience local cuisine to the fullest, yet often well meaning locals assume you miss steak and beer. The western food I've sampled in Asia almost always misses the mark, being either a best effort interpretation or a confused mess. I'm also suspicious of fad style western cafes or restaurants that capitalise on the locals lack of experience with western cuisine, which quickly becomes obvious to westerners. The beef stroganoff put an end to my concerns, and to actually find stroganoff on what is an impressive menu is a pleasant surprise. It has been decades since I dined on stroganoff but the flavour was unmistakable to the point of sentimental and for the first time since arriving in Bandung I found myself thinking of home. The menu itself delivers classic western foods rather than cliche steak and burgers - even the bolognaise is authentic with sauce emphasising pasta rather than a lump of mince on a pile of noodles. The coffee is genuine and barista made if you've missed the brew you have at home and they know how to steam milk. The staff strike the perfect balance of attentive service and invisibility but noteable is how relaxed and comfortable they are with one another when not on the job. They enjoy their work and what they do which speaks volumes about the management style and dining philosophy of this restaurant. Even something as simple as choosing the best utensils for the dish ordered as they prepare your table shows an attention to detail and is a declaration of the standard they have set for themselves. The decor is tastefully lit and elegantly decorated and the seating plan utilises multiple rooms creating a sense of privacy and a homely energy. The perfect balance of intuitive service, excellent food and authenticity seal the deal. Glosis puts it's confidence in its food and service not it's ability to pull off a 'western atmosphere' so if you are a weary or homesick western traveller who lacks the courage or the taste for local cuisine then Bandung's Glosis will come as a pleasant surprise and a welcome relief. It's generous menu and tasteful, understated ambiance is your home away from home and you will find yourself quickly becoming a regular.

First I tried this restaurant when they still on Ciumbuleuit, but now they moved to Cimanuk Street. I tried chicken steak with mushroom sauce, I forgot the exact name. It's taste good, it's expensive for me but it worth to try. Their parking space is quite big too.

Not up to their usual standard
I've been visiting this restaurant since I was little. That was when it was still in Ciumbuleuit, then Hergamanah and now in Cimanuk. It used to be one of my favourite steak restaurants but my visit two days ago was disappointing. It was the first time I came to Glosis in the new location and I wonder whether it affected their standard. New chef, perhaps? There were 9 of us and we ordered different kinds of food. The cheese pizza was a great start and my chicken valdostana was okay but the rest is no no. My husband n nephew's sirloin steaks were very well done (even very dry) although they asked for a medium rare. My mom's tenderloin, on the other hand, was rare even though she asked for medium well. The french fries was very salty. We also ordered beef stroganoff, our long time favourite in Glosis, but the taste was not as creamy as we remember. The chicken steak we ordered was very big but very thin!! Maybe they sliced the chicken to make it very big but it became so thin you can hardly taste the meat. My sister's seafood spaghetty did not look or taste like pasta, they looked and tasted like japanese noodle... The strawberry juice was watery and the iced coffee cream needed more coffee. The iced tea was terrific, of course! They had to be. What could go wrong with iced tea? :) I don't know whether I would like to return there in the near future. If they do not be careful with their standard, they may lose some customers. It is very unfortunate as the restaurant is actually very comfy with nice ambiance.
