I Love The Food and Place
I must say that this is most probably the best Kopi Tiam i ever visit in Jakarta. Either you choose the table inside or in the garden, both are nice! The dimsum, coffee, roti bakar and many more are tasty for me! I love this place and i ve been to this for 5 times, or everytime i visit Yogyakarta this is the place that i must visit.

Singapore has ruined me for this kind of food - they just do it better, I think. Anyway, Eastern Kopi is a Kopitiam up in the Seturan neighborhood of Yogya. They serve coffee, tea, kaya toast, porridge, dumplings, chicken rice and all the other staple Chinese/Malay breakfast and/or brunch foods. It is all quite decent, reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly. But it's not excellent. You wouldn't leave your wife for this food. Maybe this is just my personal tastes (I, for one, have never understood the Asian obsession with toast) but while everything was good and I will certainly eat here regularly, there was nothing that I have tried that really made me think "WOW!" Unless it is in the context of "Wow - why is the soft-boiled egg just a warm egg floating in a cup and not still in its shell?" ctually, I must say the bubur ayam rica (spicy chicken porridge - see photo) was quite nice. I will keep coming back and work my way through the menu. At the very least it's a nice place to grab a quick cup of Vietnamese coffee and a light breakfast.

FRiendly oasis in Jogja
I went the Eastern Kopi at the suggestion of a friend. It is a pretty trendy place with very friendly staff. Probably the nicest thing for me was te option to sit in the beautiful garden ourtside. Despite the bustling traffic just over the wall, I still felt isolated in a lovely garden. The food is typical Indonesian fare, and the menu, with its many choices can be fairly intimidating. So if you are not sure, it is always a safe bet to go with the Nasi Goreng or the Mie Goreng. I ordered the chicken hainam rice and was really impressed. I like spicy and this dish hit the spot. And, for me it is never a bad idea to cool those fires with a nice sirsak drink. I have since been back twice and expanded my horizons with the Tahu Telor Asin, a fried salted egg over tofu, and the Bubur Ayam Rica, a chicken stew. And the best thing? It is so cheap. I think I got out of there and ojly spend $4 for lunch.
