The Best Coffee in Jakarta!
I recently had the pleasure of discovering Dave’s Brew Coffee in Mangga Dua Square in Jakarta. I was having a hard time finding good coffee in Jakarta. Sure there are Starbucks , Dunkin Donuts, and other huge names, but I wanted something special. It seemed everyone wanted to push Luwak coffee on me. This is the coffee touted by Oprah as the most expensive coffee in the world. Also known as poop coffee. I did not want some gimmicky coffee I wanted great tasting coffee. I found it at Dave’s Brew Coffee. Dave’s Brew Coffee is off the beaten tourist path of Jakarta in Mangga Dua Square, downstairs tucked away between a curtain fabric store, and a clothing store along the wall. Unassuming and small it is hard to find, but worth it. When you go to Dave’s don’t expect a fast cup of coffee, oh no, I think of Dave as a coffee scientist. Dave makes each cup of coffee to order right down to grinding the beans for each cup. As you sit there and talk about the different kinds of coffee where they are from single origin verses blend and roasting techniques, discover correct coffee brewing process. No throw some water in the French press and slam the handle down at Dave’s. No no, a French press coffee must steep for 3 minutes, yes, he times it with a timer. Dave roasts his own beans and only sells them in 100 gram bags. If you want more he can roast some just for you, but like everything thing else quality needs time. I ordered 1 kilo of coffee and it took about 4 days for the order. But the result is I have truly fresh coffee roasted just for me which smells and tastes incredible. Slow down, sit down at the little bar, watch the love and sincerity going into the cup of coffee made just for you and if you are lucky you can take home some beans roasted that morning.
