Very positive impression - could become one of my favourite
I took my family out for diner to Altoro. We ordered a few dishes from the tapas menu. All we ordered was very tasty. Especially the cooking style of the octopus impressed me. Also there is a good choice of Spanish wines and unique cocktails different from other places. We will visit this resto again for sure and when all other dishes are as good as the ones we had, I will increase my rating to 5*.

Dinner with friends
Visited recently opened Altoro in Surabaya and very much impressed. 2 floors / separate dining menus. Started with a drink on the 1st level and finished with dinner on the 2nd level. First level more casual tapas / sharing menu, hip vibe for Surabaya. 2nd level considered fine dining. Started with multiple appetizers including pan seared foie gras as well as a cured meat platter from level 1. Paired with a crisp Italian white (Donnafugata Lighea) and finished with the baby pig and authentic paella. Ended with an amazing dessert platter. Service from Tony and team was impeccable and everything was cooked perfectly.

Not as great as the info
Came to Surabaya for business trip and meeting friends, we were planning to have dinner on Friday but it was fully booked and thought wow this must be a great place! I was curious of this “Spanish” restaurant so I tried to book on Sunday before leaving surabaya. So here are some informations for readers: I was being asked which floor I would like to have dinner? I asked what is the different and asked for recommendations, she couldn’t explain the difference and everything she just recommended 1st floor because usually people chiiled there and have bar. I said Okay! I arrived and wowed this place as the decoration looks so nice. My friends were there and tell its strange there’s no Paella and Sangria in this place, really? I said So we asked and the waiter said the paella is for 2nd floor menu (which is fine dining and I didn’t know about it - I should’ve got that info when I call for reservation) Anyway we ordered and the food not as expected, the meats are dry, different serve of sangria, the seafood platters didn’t look well (it looked like fish and chips) all fried and didn’t explain in the menu. And... the churros OMG it didn’t cook well, I told the waiter and he said he will bring it to the chef (I didn’t eat them at all) so he took the churros and that’s it nothing happened till we leave. I am spanish food lover and know how the food tasted, I am curious because maybe it was my bad not read their link to get the details so check and as you will see not much info in the link. Suggestions: explain more detail specially about 1st & 2nd floor menu (FYI : we can’t order food like paella because we were sitting on the 1st floor - which according to me paella is not a food for fine dining, it could be eaten in any places) So hope this might help and if I heard Altoro made improvements specially for the food I might come again. Theses are some food we had, I didn’t take the churros pics after I play with them to check if its cooked or not. It looks fine tho but...
